You may soon be able to use WhatsApp, Skype and a few other messenger apps to call landlines and mobile phones.

According to a Times Of India report, inter-ministerial panel of the Telecom Commission has given clearance for interconnect agreements between internet service providers and telecom operators. With this agreement users are expected to only incur data charges and need not pay additional phone charges.

As beneficial as the proposal seems to a general user, it might present a security risk as it’s harder to monitor internet voice calls.
