Union minister for railways Suresh Prabhu is in the headlines for all the right reasons. Prabhu’s twitter handle was recently flooded with appreciative comments for his initiatives to help keep railway stations clean.

A number of customer-oriented services are in the pipeline and the authorities (in a sector that offers its services to over 3 crore people daily) definitely need words of encouragement.

Upcoming initiatives include introducing long-lasting lightweight blankets that can be washed after every use and setting up state of the art mechanized laundry facilities at more stations. Suresh Prabhu had also launched a ‘clean my coach’ service on Friday which the passengers can use by sending an SMS (or by using the app) for cleaner compartments.
