Infosys staffer missing since Brussels terror attack confirmed dead

Bengaluru-based software engineer from Infosys Raghavendran Ganesan who was missing since the terror attack in Brussels earlier last week was confirmed dead by Belgian authorities.

According to the Indian embassy in Brussels, the Infosys staffer did not survive the suicide bomb attack in one of the metro railway lines.

Immediately after the attack, Raghavendran’s brother Chandrasekhar took to Facebook to report that his family back in India was not able to contact him over the telephone. Chandrasekhar had also mentioned that his brother usually takes trains from Merode station to Parc station at around 9 a. m. in the morning.

Indian embassy’s spokesperson in Brussels Kumar Gaurav confirmed Raghavendran’s death. “Mr. Ganesan did not survive the attack,” he wrote in an email to the family. “He was riding in the same train coach as the suicide bomber,” India’s external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj wrote on Twitter.

Belgian authorities confirmed his death after verifying a DNA test result. The ministry of external affairs handed over the remains of the deceased to the grieving family in Amsterdam.

Raghavendran used the subway service to commute to work. On the fateful day, Raghavendran was in the metro train that reached the station in Maelbeek where the suicide bomber blew himself up.

Raghavendran’s family is from Chennai. He lived in Brussels with his wife who had only recently travelled to Chennai to deliver their baby.
