Aamir Khan was the face of the ‘Incredible India’ campaign for nearly a decade. He recently said goodbye to his role. While the government officials said that his contract period had expired and they chose not to renew it, some allege that he was kicked out of the campaign due to his distasteful comments on intolerance in India.

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and the Bollywood heart-throb Priyanka Chopra were chosen as the new brand ambassadors of the campaign a few months before. However, the veteran actor’s role is in question after he was listed in the Panama Papers’ leak. The 73-year-old actor is believed to have registered two shipping companies in the tax haven. The Panama Papers exposé by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists listed 500 Indians with offshore links—including Big B and his daughter-in-law and actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

The superstar had earlier issued a statement saying that his name was ‘misused’ in the Panama reports. But the multi-agency probe by the government in the matter will reveal the names of the true offenders. Amitabh Bachchan is also the face of Maharashtra’s ‘Save Tiger project’ and Congress continues to demand his ouster from the campaign till he gets a clean chit.
